3-9 Idol - Girls night three!

March 9th, 2010 by brian-wyxl

Katie - Breakaway - Now Now..we discussed this the other week. DO NOT SING OTHER IDOLS SONGS!!!! Pitchy. Blah. You are not Kelly Clarkson!

Shibhon - House of the Rising Sun - Very interesting. She did a fine job. nice power..controlled..weird arrangement actually. Simon didn’t like it…he was underimpressed. It’s a bit harsh..from what we’ve heard this year..that was great!

Laci - The Story - not really impressed..Simon’s going to say it was boring. I don’t think that was the right song for her. Wow..he didn’t.

Katelyn - I Feel the Earth Move - It lacks some grit! It’s flat. Pleasent enough. Eh

Didi - Rihannon - Kind of another flat performance..but she’s solid vocally.

Paige - Smile - She sounds nervous. Another young one that isn’t quite ready. Kind of not liking this.

Crystal - Give Me One Reason - Love her..loved this…simon said it..this is yours to lose!

Lily - I Fall To Pieces - Oh i didn’t really like that. Kind of a mess! And what’s with the tiny guitar???

Paige going home.. Crystal the best…the rest..eh!

Idol 3-4 Second Bye Bye show

March 5th, 2010 by brian-wyxl

The show kicked off with the Top 20 contestants singing ”I Got a Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. After the group performance, it was elminiation time. Ryan Seacrest started with the guys. Between Toddrick Hall and John Park, Park was sent home. Jermaine Sellers was the next to leave from the guys on AI. Following Danny Gokey’s performance of his new country single, the girls received their results. Despite the positive feedback, Michelle Delamor was surprisingly sent home over Didi Benami. It was also the end of the line for Haeley Vaughn who sang an emotional final song.

No big surprises, Thankfully Haeley went home. She needs more work, and could be very good in the future!

Thoughts??

Thankfully, next weeks shows are only an hour!

3-3 Idol - Ladies Night..and commercials!

March 3rd, 2010 by brian-wyxl

I started almost 30 minutes late…caught up by 9:32.

Girl night on Idol. Crystal is feeling better, and the switch continues!

Crystal - As Long As I Can See The Light - She’s got a great voice! I like her!!! Nice power, and she doesn’t seem forced with it. Not a bad song either! She could bring this one back. Great performance! Even Simon loved it!!!

I’m going to bed now…nothing can compare with that tonight!

Hailey - The Climb - too big a song for her!

Laci - Kiss Me - kind of rough. Not horrendous..but eh.

Katie - Put Your Records On - There’s promise here, I don’t think she’s ready. This is a mess going from the verse part to the chours. She doesn’t do the upper register well.

DeeDee - Lean On Me - Really change the song..and not well! She’s singing too high..she needs to bring her voice down.

Michelle - With Arms Wide Open - Please stop!

Lilly - A Change Is Gonna Come - I kind of like this, but she seems out of range..a bit screechy..falls apart at the end!!! Big Time! Judges raved..even Simon a bit..says Crystal was better..but she’s good.

Katelyn - I’m Going Back To The Start - That wasn’t too bad.

Paige - Walk Away - Eh..shouldn’t do other Idols songs. Kelly has a big voice for this song, and paige doesn’t.

Siobhan - Think - Mess..not a strong enough voice for this. Middle chorus was better. Ok..she got into the song…got better as she went on! Still a bit high and not gritty enough. She got some good notes! Not bad!

Crystal..the best…

Hailey please go home.

3-2 Idol - Is there singing between the commericals?? The many many many commercials?

March 2nd, 2010 by brian-wyxl

It’s the guys tonight?? Gee thanks for that heads up! I was expecting the girls. Ok…so one of the ladies is sick, I can forgive them that.

Week 2 of full songs. Let’s hope that there is better singing this week.

They have messed with the judges positions this week..Randy, Ellen, Kara and then Simon.

Simon asked who’s ahead, girls or guys…he says a smidge to the girls. really????

Michael - This is a Mans World - He’s great! Nice voice. Power!!!! Judges happy tonight! even simon! Good way to start the show.

John - Gravity - better than last week..he’ll be middling this week. Not sure simon will like it..And he didn’t..”a so what performance”

Casey - I Don’t Wanna Be - This is horrible. I’m not a fan of his. bye bye

Alex - One More Try - It’s an interesting performance. He’s got a nice voice..I think he’s a little green though, and in a few years, with more practice and work he’ll be really really great. Not bad though.

Todrick - What’s Love Got To Do With It - He likes to rearrance songs big time. He does it..but then it’s a eh peformance. Sigh

Jermaine - What’s Goin’ On - Not a song that can win you Idol.

Andrew - You Give Me Something - I’m disapointed!!!!! I don’t think this was the right song choice.

Aaron - My Girl - He’s feeling a bit more comfortable this week. Very solid. We’ll never see him on the pop charts..this kids all country! And will do just fine!

Tim - Come On Get Higher - Nope!

Lee - Lips of an Angel - Good choice of song. Not bad.

Casey and Todrick should be going home.

2/27 Another Saturday, Another Shift!

February 27th, 2010 by brian-wyxl

Syl and I swapped so I could be in the Wedding at the Mall! I’ve done every Saturday shift this month. We will soon settle down and be back to the 2-6p!

Who are the mascots for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games?
A: Miga, Quatchi and Sumi are all Inspired by Pacific Coast Indian legends.
Miga is a young sea bear who is part killer whale and part bear who lives in the ocean out past Vancouver Island. Quatchi is more famously known worldwide as Sasquatch or Bigfoot, and has been the subject of hundreds of sightings for centuries throughout the Pacific Northwest. Sumi is part orca whale, part phoenix and part bear, considered a “guardian spirit” by Pacific Northwest Indian tribes.

A marathon game of Trivial Pursuit between the sexes has finally ended after five months - with women proving to be cleverer than men.
The female of the species narrowly clinched victory after the online contest which featured more than 15 million questions conducted in nine languages.
Women answered 4,088,139 questions correctly, compared to the 4,077,596 right answers given by men, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The most popular overall category was Entertainment, followed by Science & Nature, Sports and Leisure, History, Arts & Literature, Geography and finally People & Places.
Women were strongest when answering questions from Entertainment. They answered twice as many from the category, traditionally characterized as pink, as men with 56.8% of answers given correctly.
The best categories for the men were Science & Nature (57% accuracy). They answered twice as many questions on Sports & Leisure as women with a 54.8% success rate.
The next battle planned is between the generations - between the under 30s and the over the 30s. It will begin in mid-March 2010, find more details here!

The Famous Last Meals of MJ, Julia Child, JFK, and 8 Others from shine.yahoo.com
Cleopatra
Despondent over the death of her husband Anthony, Cleopatra requested a final meal of figs — with a side of deadly asp. Yes, she elected to perish by snakebite, choosing this particular method so it wouldn’t mar her features in death. Centuries, and one Elizabeth Taylor epic later, this decision paid off.

Robert E. Lee
In 1870, after the Civil War’s end, Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee suffered a stroke. He subsisted on brandy and beef soup for weeks, which was believed to be his final meal. His last words? “Strike the tent”, which meant, in faithful Southerner terms, it’s time to move on to a better place.

Titanic passengers
The first class passengers on this doomed vessel went out in high culinary style. The menu for the final dinner service on the Titanic reads as follows: Consomme Olga, poached salmon with mousseline sauce, lamb with mint sauce, roast duckling with apple sauce, sirloin of beef with chateau potatoes, stuffed summer squash, creamed carrots, green peas, foie gras, Waldorf pudding, chocolate and vanilla eclairs, peaches in chartreuse jelly and ice cream.

Jimi Hendrix
Uncontested guitar god, Woodstock icon, college-poster stalwart, and counter-cultural hero Jimi Hendrix had a rather less-than-revolutionary final meal before his accidental overdose of sleeping pills in London in 1970: A tuna-fish sandwich.

Timothy McVeigh
Before Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was executed on June 11, 2001 in Terre Haute, Indiana, he requested, and polished off, two pints of Ben & Jerry’s mint chocolate-chip ice cream.

Allen Ginsberg
The renown poet, author, activist, and patriarch of the Beat movement cooked — and consumed — a delicious fish chowder before his death, in 1997. Two gallons of leftover chowder were later discovered in his freezer and are, rumor has it, still preserved in anticipation of a museum exhibit entitled “The Last Soup of Allen Ginsberg.”

John Belushi
After consuming massive quantities of alcohol and illegal substances, legendary comedian and Saturday Night Live star John Belushi had a soothing bowl of lentil soup just before his untimely death at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

John F. Kennedy
JFK’s final breakfast, consumed at a meeting with supporters before his fateful Dallas motorcade, was typical of the pragmatic President: Orange juice, coffee, soft-boiled eggs, bacon, and toast with marmalade.

Michael Jackson
Apparently this fact is widely known, but in the post-memorial mayhem I somehow missed the details of M.J.’s final meal: Spinach salad with chicken breast. A healthy and antioxidant-rich meal.

Perry Smith and Richard Hickock
The infamous Kansas murderers immortalized in Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood shared everything, including a final meal of shrimp, french fries, garlic bread, ice cream, and strawberries with whipped cream before their sentence was carried out, death by hanging.

Julia Child
One of the world’s most beloved culinary figures departed the earth not after a grand soufflé or boeuf bourguignon, but, fittingly, after a classic, simple, savory bowl of French onion soup.
