Beyoncé’s reps: Obama affair allegation ‘absurd’

THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS: President Barack Obama greets singer Beyonce on the West Front of the Capitol in Washington, Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, after she performed the National Anthem at the ceremonial swearing-in ceremony during the 57th Presidential Inauguration. Photo: Associated Press/Win McNamee

A spokesperson for superstar Beyoncé has dismissed reports suggesting the singer has been secretly romancing U.S. President Barack Obama, calling the story “absurd”.

Gossip bloggers in Europe were sent into a spin on Monday when French paparazzo Pascal Rostain made the bizarre claim during a radio interview to promote his new memoir.

He said, “You know, at this time, in the United States, there is something big that is happening. It’ll go out tomorrow in the Washington Post… an alleged affair between President Barack Obama and Beyoncé.”

Washington Post editors were quick to deny any such article, and now Beyoncé’s representative has shot down the suggestion of a secret affair.

Rostain has since insisted he meant the comments in jest.

Beyoncé and her husband of six years, rap icon Jay Z, have been longtime supporters of Obama and they befriended the politician and his wife Michelle during their campaign for the White House in 2008.

Speaking of their friendship in 2012, the President said, “I’ve gotten to know these guys over the first several years (of my presidency). They’re good people. Beyoncé could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls. So they’re good friends. We talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends.”

The “Crazy In Love” hitmaker, who performed at his first inauguration ball in 2009 and again at his swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C. last year, headed to the White House once more last month to sing at Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday celebration.
