It's funny how different cultures have different customs. When Michelle Obama visited the Queen, she put her arm around her! This is not protocol..You Don't Touch The Queen!!! Thankfully the Queen
was amused!
Watch this (and enjoy the sarcasm at the end) from Brian Williams and NBC News.
This whole situation got us to thinking about etiquette. Some of the worst etiquette mistakes are also the most common. John Tesh has a list of them..
-
Ignoring an RSVP. When you receive an invitation, RESPOND. “RSVP” stands for, “repondez, s’il vous plait,” or “please respond” in French.
-
Complaining while you’re in line. Showing your impatience by creeping up closer to the person in front of you. ..it’s not gonna make the line go faster, it just makes people tense.
-
Cell Phones. Even if there’s no sign posted, you should observe a cell-free zone, in coffee shops, bookstores, and in line at the post office, bank and supermarket. The person next to you doesn’t want to hear about your horrible date last night, or your kids’ latest antics.
-
Honking your horn at the slightest infraction. Honking should be used to warn someone of a potential accident.
