As you know, six businesses and 11 apartments were destroyed during the recent catastrophic fire in Ovid.

An estimated 15-20 people have been displaced from their homes, and about 60 people lost their jobs…many lost everything,

Thankfully there were no fatalities however, three firefighters were treated; one for an asthma attack, one for gloves that froze to their fingers, and another for a shirt that froze to their chest.

Here’s how you can help:

  • The United Way of Seneca County and Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes  are assisting, among others.
  • Volunteers are needed at the Ovid VFW to help sort through donations. With an abundance of generous donations any amount of time you can spare to help is deeply appreciated.
  • A benefit is being planned for February 1st at the Ovid VFW to support everyone affected by the recent devastating fire.  90 Proof is one of the bands participating.
  • Go to the United way of Seneca County’s Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
