It’s all fun and game on the 4th of July…until someone gets injured.
Earlier this week we shared some fireworks safety tips…here are some other holiday health hazards you may not have thought about from the NY Post and Healthline:
Dehydration Some of the early signs are dizziness, fatigue and nausea. Be sure to drink more water than normal and sit in the shade every now and then
Food preparation burns Lime juice on your hands can react with sunlight and cause bad blisters on your hands that won’t show up for a day or two. It can also happen with mangoes, carrots and parsley.
Food poisoning Refrigerated food should never be left out for more than two hours…and when it’s over 90 degrees just one hour. Keep stuff like raw meat in a cooler with ice and put things back in the fridge…and also make sure nothing’s too undercooked, either.
Heatstroke If you feel nauseous, have a headache or get cramps, it’s time to find some A/C, drink water and maybe take a cold shower. If you’re confused, can’t walk, or have trouble breathing, it’s more serious…that’s when you need to call 911 or go to the ER.
Know the warning signs…and let’s all have a safe and happy 4th!
