People used to bake an Election Day cake to help get through the long nights of counting ballots, according to the New York Times.

The recipe is a standard cake one with flour, butter and eggs plus things like brown sugar, buttermilk, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, raisins and pecans…it’s kind of a dense fruitcake.

It’s making a comeback this year particularly because of the rise in baking during the pandemic.
