We ALL think we’re master chefs these days!
There’s a Reddit thread where people are sharing the cooking “rules” that they ALWAYS ignore (like “don’t put pepper on steak, because it’ll just burn”)….here are a few more we discard:
- Throwing out a whole block of cheese when there’s a little mold on it
- Using olive oil while cooking, instead of cheaper oils with higher smoke-points
- Don’t cook with wine, tomatoes, or anything acidic in cast iron pans
- Don’t eat uncooked cookie dough
- Unsalted butter in a recipe…some people say they use salted ALL the time
- Fresh herbs in a recipe…the dried ones are easier AND cheaper
- Measuring dried spices….we improvise
- Using a particular color of onion…we use whatever’s on hand
- Sifting flour
- Don’t mix seafood and cheese…self-explanatory
Buzzfeed also has some outdated rules…which do you eschew?
