“Depressing” foods

Yesterday was “Blue Monday“, the so-called most depressing day of the year.

Do you turn to “comfort food” to help you feel better?

It might be doing just the opposite.

Here are three foods you might want to avoid, according to CheatSheet:

Anything with artificial sweeteners  Aspartame and other sweeteners might save calories but they can be terrible for your mood and can cause headaches and insomnia.

Junk food  Especially if you eat a lot of it. Your body needs things like magnesium, fatty acids, B-6 and B-12…and if you don’t get enough, it can create a chemical imbalance in your brain.

Trans fat  The main source of trans fat is partially hydrogenated oil, which is in a lot of fried foods and other foods like frozen pizza, cake frosting and microwave popcorn. One study found people who avoided them and used olive oil more often had a 30% lower risk for depression.

Talk with your doctor to see if your diet is the cause of your depression.
