The 4th of July is about food, fun and, of course, fireworks!
Did you know that over 300 people a day go to the ER with firework-related injuries in and around the Fourth of July?
Don’t be one of them this year…here are some important fireworks safety tips from Yahoo:
- Never aim or throw fireworks at people
- Never place any part of your body directly over a firework while lighting it
- As soon as it’s lit, get to a safe distance
- Always have a bucket of water or a hose handy in case of a fire
- Never re-light a firework that doesn’t go off
- Never let young kids play with fireworks or set them off
Here in New York, only “sparkling devices” can be sold but even sparklers can cause serious burns…they can get as hot as a blow torch.
Eye injuries have also doubled in the past year alone so be sure to wear protective eyewear, too.
And, of course, you can just check out the many displays happening in the Finger Lakes…here’s the full list of shows this week!
Have a safe and happy 4th!
