Got an old Gmail address you haven’t used in a while but still want to keep?
You’re going to want to access it today.
Starting tomorrow, Google will begin deleting unused accounts that have been inactive for more than two years according to People.
They announced it in May citing security reasons because if an account hasn’t been used in years, it’s “more likely to be compromised” and a higher risk for identity theft.
All your old emails will be deleted along with any photos and Google Docs you’ve got saved.
Important to mention: This is for UNUSED accounts…not your active ones.
If you’ve got an old address that forwards to your current one, you might still need to sign in to save it…it’s not clear if forwarding is enough to keep it alive.
If that’s the case though, you should have gotten an email by now…they’ve been sending them out to any accounts they’re planning to deactivate.
Google’s starting with accounts that were set up and never used and then move on to those that were but are now abandoned…but if you DO want to keep one, don’t wait.
Sign in ASAP, read or send an email from your unused account and you should be good.
