How to beat the heat ☀

The heat is ON in the Finger Lakes this weekend!

Here are some safety tips from the American Red Cross to beat the heat:

Have a power plan  Power outages are common during heat waves so have a plan for wherever you might be.

Get cool  If you don’t have air conditioning, check out the list of places you can go for relief during the hottest part of the day, like a library or a mall.

Never leave kids or pets alone in a car   Check on both frequently to make sure they’re not suffering from the heat and have plenty of water.

Stay hydrated  Make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Eat less  Have smaller meals more often instead of two or three big meals…and don’t turn on the oven unless you have to.

Make the rounds  Check on family, friends and neighbors who don’t have air conditioning or live alone and may need help.
