You may never be able to attain the athletic success our summer Olympians have…but that doesn’t mean you can’t do big things, too!
The Conversation shared how to “think like an Olympian” and achieve your goals:
Be “SMART” Elite athletes often set goals that are “SMART” meaning Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound. Defining your goals that way helps ensure they’re realistic and attainable.
Plan Hitting a goal takes time and effort and planning is an important part of that. Sometimes even making a backup plan like, “Every Thursday, I’ll drive to the local swimming pool and swim for 45 minutes. If the pool is too busy or it’s closed, I’ll go for a 45-minute walk instead.”
“See it” Before running towards the vault or serving a volleyball, Olympic athletes often use mental imagery to visualize their performance and focus.
Talk it out Saying phrases such as “I can do it” or “I’m almost there” can help keep you motivated even when you’re not feeling your best…sounds corny but it works!
Now go out there and give it all you’ve got!
