Keeping toddlers safe on Halloween

Halloween is the one time of the year kids get to go crazy on candy (and some adults, too!).

Many of the most popular candies, though, can be dangerous for toddlers.

BabyCenter talked to a pediatrician to find out which Halloween treats are and AREN’T okay for kids under the age of four.

Here are the 15 candies they say to avoid giving your toddler, due to choking hazards:

  • M&M’s
  • Peanut M&M’s
  • Reese’s Pieces
  • Twizzlers
  • Gummy bears
  • Skittles
  • Milk Duds
  • Whoppers
  • Jawbreakers
  • Blow Pops
  • Tootsie Pops
  • Jolly Ranchers
  • Sour Patch Kids
  • Hot Tamales
  • Candy corn

Here are 10 treats that are safer:

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
  • Twix
  • Snickers
  • Kit Kats
  • Butterfingers
  • Hershey bars
  • Milky Ways
  • Animal crackers
  • Cookies
  • Cupcakes.

In general, kids are less likely to choke on something if they have to take a bite out of it and most chocolate candy is safer, because it melts away and shrinks.
