Pet-proofing your Christmas tree

Pets and Christmas trees don’t always mix.

Yahoo and Rover have some tips to prevent any holiday mishaps:

Get an artificial tree instead of a real one.  Fake trees don’t have the same appealing scent and they don’t shed…pine needles can cause diarrhea and other issues if pets eat them.

Put the fragile ornaments on higher branches.  You should also attach ornaments with ribbons or twist ties to make them more difficult to knock down.

Use cord covers or organizers to keep electrical wires out of sight.  Pets may try to chew on the wires or can get caught on them, knocking the tree over.

Cover the water container. It’s one of the reasons dogs can be tree-wreckers.

If you’re still worried, put up a pen or fencing around the base of the tree to add an extra layer of protection…and always keep the lights OFF if you’re not home for everyone’s safety!
