Recycling your Christmas tree

Now that we’re well into 2026, it’s time to take down the holidays…for most of us!

What should you do with your live tree?

There are many ways to recycle it…you could:

  • Cut the branches and use them for mulch
  • Saw the trunk and use it later in your fire pit
  • Stand it up outside (or lay it down) for birds and small critters
  • Sink it into your pond to give fish protection from predators

You could also donate it to a local farm for their livestock…or simply recycle it curbside in Ithaca or at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center now through the end of the month!

10,000,000 trees end up in landfills ever year releasing greenhouse gases…don’t let your live tree be one of them.
