Many workers dream of being able to telecommute…i.e. working from home.
It’s gaining popularity, too…20% of us now do it part-time or full-time every week!
There are pros and cons to it you should consider before doing it, though.
According to a new survey here are the top 10 perks of working from home:
- There’s more flexibility with your hours and breaks.
- You save time by not commuting.
- There are fewer distractions.
- You save money, especially on transportation costs.
- You’re more productive.
- It lets you help take care of your kids and other family members
- It’s better for your mental health and happiness.
- It lets you take care of pets.
- It’s easier to be accountable for yourself.
- It’s more environmentally friendly (since you’re not commuting).
It also has its drawbacks, according to U.S. News & World Report:
- You socialize less, which can take a toll on your mental health
- You spend more in out-of-pocket costs (heating, AC, printing)
- Higher insurance costs for business equipment and home meetings
- No separation between your work life and home life
- Working from home lowers promotion rates by 50%
You may want to consider everything before jumping in.
