Things that can KILL an interview

Got a job interview soon? Great!

Let’s help you ace it!

A recent poll found some of the worst things you can do like showing up late, using filler words like “er” and “um” too much and forgetting the NAME of the company (trust us, it happens!).

Here are some more things that can derail your chances from the NY Post:

Asking them to cover interview-related expenses like parking or tolls.  Companies will communicate upfront if they’re covering stuff like that otherwise, assume they’re not and think of it as an investment in your future.

Talking about your personal life too much Broad strokes are okay just don’t waste their time by rambling on and on about your kids or how much you love golf.  Even if they seem interested, they’re probably not THAT interested.

Too much name-dropping If you know someone at the company, mention it once.  You don’t need to say it over and over again.

Exaggerating like saying “I’m PERFECT for this role.”  It can come across as inauthentic or you’re trying too hard.  Stick to the facts and focus on why you’re a GOOD fit for the job.

Asking too many questions at the end of the interview Much like the end of a meeting, don’t be the one dragging it out with too many inquiries. They might feel like their the ones getting interviewed. Let them wrap things up and don’t waste their time.

Good luck! 🤞
