Trick-or-treating…are you doing it wrong?
Maybe, according to Lifehacker!
They’ve got their “Seven Deadly Sins of Taking Your Kid Trick-or-Treating“…some highlights:
Being TOO scary Halloween is supposed to be fun scary, not terrifying
Ignoring safety rules Traffic is the biggest concern so make sure your kids have a powerful flashlight or glow-sticks, are wearing bright colors and can see through their masks (and that their costumes don’t trip them up)
Politeness, please Make sure your kids say “Trick-or-treat?”, thank the person who gives them candy and say thank you to anyone who likes their costume
Poor planning Your 10-year-old may want to hit every house on the block…your toddler, maybe not…so plan ahead to make sure you’re not carrying a tired kid around all night
Skipping it altogether Trick-or-treating is one of the few rites-of-passage where kids aren’t totally controlled by their parents and there’s a community-building aspect too, where we trust our neighbors to play along and pitch in…so let your kids go trick-or-treating, hand out candy to other people’s kids and have FUN!
