Last week we told you about “lawnmower parenting” where you “mow down” any and all obstacles for your kids so they never have to struggle or overcome adversity.
USA Today has more types of parents you may not have heard of:
Tiger parenting This is inspired from the “Tiger Mom” book that was popular a few years ago. It’s when you have really high expectations and prioritize studying and extracurricular activities over leisure time.
Elephant parenting This is opposite of a tiger parent. You try not to yell or even raise your voice at them and encourage them no matter what.
Dolphin parent We would call this “normal parenting”. It’s halfway between tiger and elephant where you might have high expectations but you take a more balanced approach and allow your kids have some downtime.
Free-range parent THIS is the parenting many of us grew up with. It’s all about independence and self-reliance. Free-range parents are more likely to let their kids walk to school alone or go to a park by themselves.
Which one are you?
