Back-to-school season is upon us!
The Today show asked a group of teachers what they wish parents knew before the school year starts…here’s what they said:
- You can invite your child to parent-teacher conferences They generally want students at them…that way, kids and their parents can hear feedback at the same time and nothing gets lost in translation
- Got a problem? Tell the teacher (not the principal or other parents) If your kid is experiencing conflict at school, don’t call the other child’s parents (especially if you’re angry)…instead, contact the teacher first to find out what’s going on.
- Stop calling or texting your kids at school Kids are on their phones enough as it is; sometimes their parents are part of the problem.
- They’re not fans of taking kids out of school for planned vacations. They’d like you to stick to the school calendar for your vacation times whenever possible.
- Let them know what you did this summer When teachers are familiar with how students spent the previous few months, they can better tailor education to children’s specific needs
Teachers…any you’d like to add?
