Cooking rules we always ignore

We ALL think we’re master chefs these days!

There’s a Reddit thread where people are sharing the cooking “rules” that they ALWAYS ignore (like “don’t put pepper on steak, because it’ll just burn”)….here are a few more we discard:

  • Throwing out a whole block of cheese when there’s a little mold on it
  • Using olive oil while cooking, instead of cheaper oils with higher smoke-points
  • Don’t cook with wine, tomatoes, or anything acidic in cast iron pans
  • Don’t eat uncooked cookie dough
  • Unsalted butter in a recipe…some people say they use salted ALL the time
  • Fresh herbs in a recipe…the dried ones are easier AND cheaper
  • Measuring dried spices….we improvise
  • Using a particular color of onion…we use whatever’s on hand
  • Sifting flour
  • Don’t mix seafood and cheese…self-explanatory

Buzzfeed also has some outdated rules…which do you eschew?
