Great cooking hacks

Looking for some cool cooking shortcuts?

YouTuber Joshua Weissman didn’t go to culinary school but is one of the most popular chef on the site with over 10 million subscribers!

He recently posted some of the hacks and shortcuts he’s accrued over the years online including:

  • If you wash your produce with vinegar, it’ll last longer.  He says the best mix is three parts water, one part vinegar and then let them sit for a couple minutes.
  • Before adding fresh herbs to a dish, give them a strong squeeze beforehand.  This “bruising” releases twice as much flavor.
  • Use a potato masher to break up all the big chunks of your ground beef.  It works a lot better than a spoon or fork.
  • Much like “Salt Bae“, add seasoning from high above…it provides an even seasoning to the largest surface area of meat.
  • Put soft cheeses like mozzarella or gouda in the freezer for 15 to 30 minutes before grating them.  Voila!  Easy cheese crumbles.
  • If you want to make fluffier biscuits, use bigger chunks of butter.
  • If you make soup and it’s too watery throw some breadcrumbs in there to help thicken it up.

Chef Mike Washurn of Wegmans in Ithaca also likes to fortify his chicken broth with bones from their rotisserie chicken and cleans his grill with a ball of aluminum foil and tongs when a brush isn’t handy?

Upworthy‘s got more of his tips…do you have any?
