The biggest Summer myths

Yay, Summer! ☀😎🍸

You think you know all about Summer?

NOT so fast, my friend!

Here are the most common myths about Summer fun from U.S. News & World Report and the New York Times):

“You can catch a cold from air conditioning”  Not from the temperature alone.  Running the AC constantly can dry out your nasal passages and make it slightly easier for viruses to enter your body but you won’t catch a cold from the cold air.

“Any drink will rehydrate you on a hot day”  Drinks with lots of sugar or alcohol can actually de-hydrate you.  So if you’re outside on a hot day, make sure you’re drinking lots of water, too.

“You can’t get a sunburn on a cloudy day”  Clouds don’t block out UV rays so you can still burn even when it’s overcast. (Check out CNN‘s list of the the biggest suntanning myths).

“Eating garlic will keep mosquitoes away”  Save your breath. Garlic and other gimmicks like essential oils, ultrasonic devices and smartphone apps all have little if any scientific evidence showing they’ll protect you.

“A dip in the pool can double as a shower” We wish!.  Pools are often filled with all sorts of bacteria capable of causing diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps and infections.  In fact, you should shower BEFORE going for a swim AND after.
