Why toasting bread is healthier

If one of your guilty pleasures is white bread, there’s a way to make it healthier…put it in your toaster!

A UK doctor named Karan Rajan explains it all in the NY Post.

White bread isn’t healthy in general because it’s high on the glycemic index, which means it breaks down in your body faster and makes your blood sugar spike.

However, toasting white bread lowers its glycemic index rating by causing more “retrograded starch” to form and act more like fiber, breaking down slower and help you feel fuller longer.

Freezing it also causes a similar reaction…and it applies to pasta, too.

Leftover pasta that’s refrigerated and reheated is lower on the glycemic index than when it was cooked fresh.
