Bellamy sentenced to life in prison by Cayuga County Court

Cayuga County, NY (WHCU) – Cayuga County DA Jon Budelmann’s announced his office secured a life sentence against Ashton Bellamy in the July 2017 homicide of an inmate at the Auburn Correctional Facility.

Bellamy and Rupert Alberga attacked a fellow prisoner in his cell after the individual allegedly called Alberga a racial slur. The man later died of his injuries. Bellamy’s indicted for manslaughter and assault, later pleading guilty to the assault charge. Yesterday the Cayuga County Court hit Bellamy with a term of 12 years to life in jail.

The sentence will be consecutive to an eight-year prison term Bellamy’s currently serving.
