Broome County man dies in Newark Valley ice fishing accident

NEWARK VALLEY, N.Y. (WHCU) — An ice fishing accident in Newark Valley has resulted in the death of a man from Broome County. 

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office says two men fell through ice on Friday afternoon at Alexander Pond. One man was able to make it out safely, but 59-year-old Norman O’Neill was pronounced dead at the scene after CPR was performed.

Investigators say O’Neill’s cause of death is accidental drowning.
