
The starting goaltender for the Cornell men’s hockey team has been nominated for the 2015 Hobey Baker Award, considered the Heisman trophy of college hockey.
Mitch Gillam, a sophomore at the Cornell College of Architecture, Art and Planning, is among the 59 players nominated for the award.
Gillam leads the nation in save percentage (.958).
He joined the Big Red after a two seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League.
Fans can vote for their pick until March 8 at http://www.hobeybaker.com/awards/the-hobey-baker-memorial-award/vote.
The top ten list of candidates will be released March 19. Votes from fans account for a 1 percent of the total ballot.
The award winner will be announced on Friday, April 10 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championships in Boston, Mass.
