ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — The Omicron strain of COVID-19 is now in New York.
Officials say the five cases, all downstate, are likely unconnected. One case is a person on Long Island who traveled frequently to South Africa, where the strain originated. In Minnesota, a person tested positive for the Omicron variant after spending time in New York City.
Doctor Mary Bassett, New York State’s health commissioner, says they are still learning on how to handle the new strain.
