ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – An Ithaca man awaits his day in court.

Around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies observed a man driving on Elmira Road in the City of Ithaca they knew had a suspended New York State Driver’s License. Deputies attempted to pull 32-year-old Brandon Karschner over, eventually catching up to him and 31-year-old Shelby Karschner behind Walmart.

Authorities say they found meth, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, ninja stars, and a loaded shotgun in the vehicle. The shotgun, found between the driver’s side door and driver’s seat, had a sawed-off barrel, a shortened pistol-grip stock, and scratched-off serial numbers.

Shelby Karschner was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for drug possession. Brandon Karschner, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with four counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon. Two counts were for the shotgun and the ninja stars, and the other two were for the defaced serial numbers and a previous felony conviction.

Karschner is being held in Tompkins County Jail.
