Authorities in Maryland say they’ve arrested a man in connection with the murder of an Ithaca native and her husband earlier this month.

67-year-old Julianne Vilardo and her husband, Richard, were found dead at their home in Rockville, Maryland on May 10th.

Police say 31-year-old Scott Tomaszewski was arrested on a cruise ship that was docked in Alaska. He has reportedly admitted to the crime, and investigators are believed to have found evidence linking him to the crime.

A burglary at the couple’s home 17 years ago and another recent burglary in the couple’s neighborhood reportedly led police to Tomaszewski.

According to an obituary for the couple, Julianne Vilardo was born in Ithaca in 1948, graduated from Ithaca High School in 1966, and graduated from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration in 1970.
