Roads were a mess through the Ithaca area on Wednesday, and Thursday morning’s commute wasn’t much better.
Snow showers, along with blowing and drifting snow, covered roadways throughout the area.
One of the most impacted areas was Route 366, where a tractor trailer got stuck in Varna, and backed traffic up all the way to Route 13 around 9 a.m.
Cornell Police closed off a portion of Route 366, from Game Farm Road to Hoy Road, around 8:30 a.m. due to dangerous road conditions. The roadway was re-opened about an hour later.
Police and sheriff’s departments throughout the region lifted travel advisories early Thursday. Authorities in Cayuga, Cortland, Seneca and Tompkins counties had all issued advisories against any unnecessary travel.
However, speeds on major roads like Route 13 through Tompkins County were down through the morning Thursday, as snow showers continued to make for some treacherous conditions.
Authorities throughout the area are warning people to slow down and take extra time, no matter where you have to go.
