LANSING — It’s been one week since the accident at a salt mine in Lansing, and officials say they’re still trying to fix the elevator system.
Seventeen miners at the Cargill Mine, off of Route 34B, were headed for their shift last Wednesday night, when their elevator got stuck about 800 feet below the surface.
A crane was brought in from the Auburn area that responders lowered into the elevator shaft to rescue the miners.
Cargill spokeman Mark Klein say they are still working on fixing that elevator, which they said last week was most likely stopped by a bent or broken beam.
Klein says there is no estimate on how long it will take to complete the project.
