The Sonic Drive-In chain is making a move in upstate New York, and on Monday, announced plans for eight restaurants in the Albany area.

In a press release Monday, company officials said they now have agreements in place in four major markets in New York to build 27 new drive-ins.

“Through a combination of word-of-mouth and increased national advertising, we’ve cultivated strong demand for the SONIC experience nationwide, and we see tremendous opportunity to expand in the Northeast, in particular,” said Bob Franke, the company’s senior vice president of franchise sales and international development.

While Monday’s announcement focused on the Capital Region, the company said in the same release that “the brand is still offering franchise development opportunities in Binghamton, Ithaca, Utica, Rockland and Westchester counties.”

The company has over 3,500 drive-in locations around the nation.
