ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — The killer of an Ithaca man will spend two decades behind bars.

On Friday, William Marshall was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for the 2021 shooting death of Alan Godfrey. The 41-year-old admitted his guilt earlier this year. Prosecutors pushed for the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

In July 2021, Marshall shot and killed Godfrey on Taughannock Boulevard. Marshall is already serving prison time on a weapons conviction last year.

Monday on Ithaca’s Morning News, Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten discussed the case with WHCU’s Joe Salzone. You can listen at the link below.
