BRIGHTON, NY (607NewsNow) – Three people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Monroe County, and one had ties to the Ithaca area.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports 53-year-old Lawrence Mancuso shot and killed his daughter, Anne Mancuso, and her 74-year-old maternal grandmother, Mary Liccini, in Brighton on January 3. Authorities say Mancuso then turned the gun on himself. Anne Mancuso, 11, was found alive when police showed up. She was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The news was confirmed in a letter from Brighton Central School District Superintendent Kevin McGowan on Sunday.

Mancuso was named assistant dean for human resources at Cornell’s ILR school in February of 2022.

According to the Ithaca Times, Mancuso has been on a leave of absence from Cornell since October 2024, though university officials did not provide any further details.

The investigation is ongoing.
