CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) — A local business won’t be digging deeper.

Cortlandville Sand and Gravel was seeking approval to mine below the underground water table. On March 31, the request was denied by the Cortlandville Zoning Board of Appeals.

Cortlandville Planning & Zoning Officer Bruce Weber said the business “didn’t meet the criteria for a use variance.”

According to application documents, Cortlandville Sand and Gravel invested about $1,250,000 in preparation of mining below the water table.
