Dryden man pleads guilty to repeat sexual abuse of underage girl

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — A Dryden man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten says Michael Phelps admitted in court Monday to repeatedly sexually abusing a girl under the age of 13 in 2016 and 2017. The 70-year-old Phelps pleaded guilty to attempted course of sexual conduct against a child. Phelps must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will serve 10 years of probation.

“There is nothing that the Court system can provide to heal the trauma suffered by the victim in this case, but it is my hope that this represents a step toward closure for her and her family,” Van Houten oracle. “This kind of abuse has no place in our community.”

Phelps must also participate in the Tompkins County Sex Offender Compliance Court.
