HOMER, NY (607NewsNow) — Homer Mayor Pat Clune is praising part-time police officers.

During a meeting on Aug. 26, Clune said part-timers save money for the village.

“Our part-time officers help keep our overall police costs down, because that allows our full-time officers to take vacations, and be able to get sick every once in a while,” he said.

Village trustees approved James Gallup as a part-time officer during the meeting. Clune said Gallup will be a “great addition” to the police force.
