ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A person experiencing a crisis is now safe.

Ithaca Police responded last night to the Asteri building on E. Green St. about someone who entered another person’s apartment with a knife and barricaded themselves in the bathroom.

“Despite over two hours of dialogue with the Ithaca-Tompkins Crisis Negotiations Team, the subject refused to exit the bathroom,” according to an IPD news release.

“Members of the Ithaca-Tompkins Specialized Response Team were on scene with Ithaca-Tompkins Crisis Negotiations Team and were able to remove the subject from the bathroom without causing injury. The subject was then transported to a local medical center.”

IPD was assisted during the incident by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bangs Ambulance, Ithaca College Public Safety, and the Ithaca Fire Department.
