CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Months after the position became available, the Cortland County Legislature has OK’d a new administrator.

Michael Ponticello was approved Thursday by unanimous vote. He currently works in Broome County as a deputy county executive. “We are excited to welcome Michael to Cortland County,” said Kevin Fitch, Chair of the Cortland County Legislature. “His knowledge of local government, dedication to public service, and commitment to improving services for residents make him an excellent fit as our next County Administrator.”

In his new role, Ponticello will serve as Cortland County’s chief administrative officer, overseeing the county’s day-to-day operations and preparing the annual budget. “I am honored to be selected as Cortland County’s next County Administrator,” Ponticello said. I look forward to working closely with the Legislature, department heads, employees, and community partners to continue strengthening services, advancing strategic goals, and ensuring we are good stewards of taxpayer resources. Having dedicated my career to public service in our region, I am excited for the opportunity to bring my experience to Cortland County and to help build a strong and sustainable future for the community.”

Fitch had been serving as interim administrator since Rob Corpora’s retirement in May. Ponticello has a start date of Oct. 6, 2025.
