ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Utility infrastructure improvement projects continue in Ithaca.

On July 8, NYSEG announced that upgrades at the West Hill Substation have begun.

Crews are replacing two breakers and adding two capacitor banks that company officials say will increase reliability for over 2,700 customers.

“Upgrades to the West Hill Substation [are] a critical step in strengthening Ithaca’s electrical system,” said NYSEG President Mar Geaumont. “This investment improves long-term reliability and helps ensure that homes, businesses, and other facilities have the power they depend on. This project is part of a nearly $46 million initiative to upgrade multiple substations throughout Ithaca.”

Located on Elm Street, construction is expected to be completed sometime in 2027.

NYSEG began substation work at locations in Cayuga Heights and Downtown Ithaca earlier this year.
