ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – New York is supporting emergency response infrastructure and operations in the area.

On July 9, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $110 million in funding across the state through two Division of Homeland Security grant programs.

The Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant program (SICG) supports local government efforts to boost networks through Land Mobile Radio Systems, expand access to training, and maintain communications equipment. The Public Safety Answering Points Operations grant program (PSAP) provides funding to county 911 centers to support operations and develop systems needed to implement Next Generation 911 (NG911).

“Every moment counts in an emergency, and making sure our communications equipment is ready when we need it is vital to keeping New Yorkers safe,” said Hochul. “Public safety is always my top priority, and this funding will go a long way to strengthen our emergency capabilities in every part of the state.”

Tompkins County is receiving $1,037,238 through SICG and $286,480 in PSAP funding. Cortland County is getting a $1,336,038 SIGC grant and $341,726 through PSAP.

Broome and Tioga Counties also received funding. Learn more from Governor Hochul’s office here.
