DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – A Dryden mobile home park owner is facing charges.

On July 2, Tompkins County Animal Control arrested 62-year-old John Kauffman and charged him with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor poisoning or attempting to poison an animal.

The Ithaca Voice reports Kauffman admitted to putting rat poison in at least 40 open cans of wet cat food across the Pleasant View Mobile Home Park on June 26, and investigators fear it may not be an isolated incident.

At least one dog has been treated for eating contaminated food, and authorities say several dead animals have been found in the park, though toxicology reports are still pending.

Dr. Bruce Kornreich of the Cornell Feline Health Center joined 607 This Morning on July 2 to discuss the incident. You can listen to the full interview here.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Tompkins County Animal Control at (607) 592-6773.
