Schuyler County standoff leads to charges for Watkins Glen man

READING, NY (CortacaToday) – A wanted Watkins Glen man faces more charges in Schuyler County.

Deputies responded to a reported car accident in the Town of Reading around 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28. While investigating the accident on Cross Road, authorities say a man became combative with them from the front porch of a nearby residence. That man was identified as 43-year-old Dennis Thompson, who deputies knew had an active felony warrant for an undisclosed crime.

After repeated unsuccessful attempts to talk with him, Thompson entered the home and refused to come out. Part of Cross Road was shut down around 11 a.m.

Around 8:30 p.m., a Tactical Team from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office entered the residence and took Thompson into custody without incident.

According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson is charged with felony criminal contempt, misdemeanor menacing, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child after “a domestic violence incident at his residence.”

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Schuyler County Emergency Management, Schuyler EMS, Watkins Glen Police, Watkins Glen FD, Montour Falls FD, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Unit, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, and the New York State Police.
