VIRGIL, NY (607NewsNow) — Damage was kept to a minimum after a house fire in Virgil.

Firefighters responded a little before 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 to a single-family home on Webb Rd. The resident used an extinguisher to try putting out flames that started in the exhaust area of a pellet stove.

According to the Virgil Fire Department, “a handline was deployed to the rear of the structure to knock down the fire that was burning in the wall cavity and two layers of wood siding. Firefighters from Virgil, Cortland and Cortlandville assisted in confirming the fire was contained within the wall and no extension into the roof space.”

Crews from Cortland and Cortlandville helped Virgil firefighters to knock out the fire in about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported and no one was left displaced.
