Researchers have found that passive actions like cuddling and reading will help kids fall asleep, but will also help their moods as they get older. Based on a study done at Washington State University, bedtime methods can do more harm than good. The study also shows that walking, car rides and other tactics to make kids fall asleep were contrarily associated with worsening attitudes. Reading and singing to a child at night saw connections to higher sociability among toddlers. “Parental sleeping techniques are correlated with children’s sleep quality, and the importance of cultural context in child development has been long recognized,” says Christie Pham, a researcher at Washington State University and corresponding study author, in a media release.
