TV in the Bedroom Could Affect Child’s Weight

Watching TV is a good way to wind down, but a new study cautions against giving your child a TV in his or her own bedroom.

Iowa State University researchers assessed three different studies and found when kids had their own TV or game console in their bedroom they were at higher risk for obesity, did not do as well in school, and spent less time reading compared to children without those items in their rooms.

Another important finding: children with bedroom media watched shows and played video games that were more violent, which increased levels of physical aggression.

Study leader, Professor Douglas Gentile, adds, “It’s a lot easier for parents to never allow a TV in the bedroom than it is to take it out.”
