How Long You Should Hold It

Taking time out of a busy day to pee can seem impossible, but how long should you really be holding it?
The Continence Foundation of Australia says a normal functioning bladder can hold about 10 to 13.5 ounces of urine throughout the day and roughly 27 fluid ounces at night, and a healthy bladder should pass urine five to six times a day.
Holding in urine for too long (to the point of pain or discomfort) can lead to a urinary tract infection, or even a more serious– a kidney infection.
If you think you have either condition you should see a doctor, because if they are left untreated they can be serious.
On the other hand it’s also poor practice to go to the bathroom too often as it trains the body into thinking it ‘doesn’t need to be full’ before emptying.
