Mommyhood in the News

ALICIA SILVERSTONE has started a breast milk SHARING service for vegan moms who can’t produce enough of their own.  It’s called Kind Mama Milk Share, and she’s setting it up through her website.  http://thekindlife.com/blog/post/kind-mama-milk-share

Alicia got the idea after talking to a vegan mom who couldn’t produce enough milk for her baby because of breast-reduction surgery.  Obviously, it wasn’t easy to find fellow vegans in her area with some spare baby juice.

Alicia says, quote, “Because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help support those mamas and babies who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives

“If you have milk to share, post it!  If you are in need of milk, post it!  Think of all the babies we can help raise together!”

According to a new survey, two out of five working women . . . 42% . . . said they’d be afraid to tell their boss if they got pregnant, because it could hurt their career.

Two in Five Women Are Afraid to Tell Their Boss They’re Pregnant

They felt that that taking maternity leave would hurt their chances of advancing.  And even more worry that just ASKING about the company’s maternity policy could be held against them.  Here are some other results from the study . . .

39% said that they thought pregnancy was viewed negatively by employers.

One in five women said they’d accepted a job without knowing what the company’s maternity policy was.

One in 10 women have accepted a job at a company when they KNEW they were already pregnant.

One in four women said they’d tell their boss about their pregnancy before they were three months along.  Two thirds said they’d wait until their second trimester.  And 5.6% would try to keep it quiet until they were past six months.
