Plant-Based Eating Could Save You A Lot of Money!

Plant-based eating could actually save you money, a study published in JAMA Network Open found.

In fact, following a vegan diet could save consumers nearly $900 per year compared to those on the Mediterranean diet.

While meat alternatives do cost more, the savings from eliminating meat, dairy, and fats like butter made up for it.

Researchers followed 62 participants as they tried both diets for 16 weeks each, and found that dieters saved despite the belief that vegan diets are more expensive.

“As the cost of groceries remains stubbornly high, consumers should swap the meat and dairy products for a low-fat vegan diet based on fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans to possibly save more than $650 a year,” lead author Dr. Hana Kahleova said.
